This is the first change to the NewViews version, and the first time that
database processing is required.
It is a version change, not just a service pack.
THe service pack number is reset to zero.
After installing this version, each workstation, server, or application database
will be automatically processed the first time you open it.
You will be asked for comfirmation before any processing is performed,
and as a precaution, a backup is made automatically before each conversion.
The changes that required a new version number and also the need to process databases are small but important internal changes as described below.
Most other changes are bug fixes. The most important bug fix concerns multi-user collision detection. Although the collision detection algorithm itself was correct, a minor program error caused a bug message to be presented instead of the correct collision error message.
So this release is a general maintenance update that introduces no significant functionality change.
Windows should switch more quickly.
An internal change to the window system should allow faster switching between windows and faster default window setups.
The tag mechanism has been internally altered.
This change is internal to the database implementation and requires the processing of application databases. The processing is brief and does not represent a change to NewViews functionality at the user level. This change to the tags is mainly in anticipation of extended use of the tag mechaism is the future.
You will be hearing more about tags in the future as they are a powerful and elegant mechanism for moving transactions through multiple stages such as orders, shipping, invoicing, etc., for budgeting, including any nunber of separate simultaneous budgets, and for managing multiple branches, departments, companies, etc., and performing consolidations without the need for additional accounts or reports and without any changes to the totaling structure.
BUG FIX: Bug occurred when changing the company name in multi-user.
Due to an overzealous integrity check, a bug message was displayed when changing the company name on the root account information view. This occurred only with multi-user access.
BUG FIX: Bug occurred when changing an account's posting tags.
This bug occurred during ongoing internal testing at Q.W.Page and no user is likely to have encountered it. Tags are a very powerful but also very advanced feature and it is unlikely that any users have altered the pre-set tags or encountered this bug.
BUG FIX: Bug occurred on line items details under a simple transaction.
This bug was rare as it involved a situation where line items were being added under a simple transaction, (both debit and credit accounts and the amount were entered in the header), and yet details were added below. The bug occurred only if an amount field on an item detail was currently being edited and the item was deleted at that specific time. The bug only showed up during ongoing internal testing at Q.W.Page and has not likely been encountered by any users.
