NV2 Payroll for 2013

Important information for all 2013 US payroll users!

Issues caused by the Early Release Copies of the 2013 Percentage Method Tables for Income Tax Withholdings. If you have processed payroll checks dated 2013 with tax tables and rates from 2012 please read the following.

We have just received clarification from the IRS regarding underwitholding of social security tax.

If you have not yet processed US payroll in January, you must install NewViews 2 version 25.2 (v 99 for NV1 users) prior to processing your first payroll for 2013.

Verify your Social Security Setting 2013 rate setting.

If you have already processed payroll in January using the 2012 employee tax rate for social security, you will have to adjust the withholdings for each employee on your next payroll run to correct any underwithholdings. One way to do this is as follows:

  1. Print your last payroll check run on plain paper so you can easily see the deductions for each employee.
  2. Install NewViews version 25.2 (v 99 for NV1 users)
  3. Create a temporary payroll check run for the current pay period using the exact same hours input for the previous check run. THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO EASILY SEE WHAT THE DEDUCTIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOR EACH EMPLOYEE AT THE NEW RATE.
  4. For each employee, note the difference between what should have been deducted for social security tax and what was actually deducted. This figure will be used to correct any underwithholdings.
  5. Delete the temporary payroll check run you just created.
  6. Run payroll for the current period with the current hours. For each employee, edit (increase) the social security tax withholdings to offset any underwithholdings from the previous payroll run.
  7. Print employee checks as usual.

The NV2 program's tax tables cover January 1, 2003 to the end of December of this year.

United States Payroll

Political turmoil relating to taxes and a "just-in-time" delivery attitude on the part of legislators and bureaucrats makes providing timely payroll releases a challenge. As of January 15, 2013 Publication 15 (Circular E), Employer's Tax Guide, is not available.
