NewViews 2.02
Released - June 23, 2005
This is a version change, not just a service pack. The service pack number is reset to zero. After installing this version, each workstation, server, or application database will be automatically processed the first time you open it. You will be asked for comfirmation before any processing is performed, and as a precaution, a backup is made automatically before each conversion.
What's New
-
July 2005 Canada payroll update is included.
-
Templates are now supported for the printing of tables.
When you use the Print>All or Print>Block to print all or part of a table, a print settings dialog appears. A Template field has been added to this dialog to allow for the control of margins, fonts, page centering, etc
-
Now prevent restored and maximized windows from being equal in size.
Prior to this release you could manually resize a "restored" window to occupy the full space available in its parent window. Some users were doing this, forgetting it, and later becoming confused about how to restore the window. Now it is always possible to tell whether a window is in its maximized or restored state.
-
The window setup for the root journal now includes a Journals Explorer in its window list. This provides a table of all leaf
journals. A leaf journal has no sub-journals and is the place where you add transactions. This provides a "nice" place to review
all the journals you use for transaction work.
The new window will not appear until you right-click on the journal title bar (i.e. beside the window list button) and issue the Window>Default Setup command.
-
The order aging analysis view now includes a column for orders dated in the future.
There are a number of reasons you might date orders in the future, such as anticipated delivery dates and it makes sense to have a column for these orders.
The new column will not appear until you right-click on the account table title bar (i.e. beside the window list button) and issue the Window>Default Setup command.
-
Added progress windows when operating with multi-user access.
Progress windows are displayed when a user is performing a long-duration all-or-nothing operation such as deleting a block or rows. In prior releases these progress windows were displayed only when single-user but now are also displayed "across the net" when multi-user.
-
Added a startup banner.
The NewViews program takes a while to load so we added a startup banner to indicate it is loading.
-
Better cleanup of temporary directory.
The NewViews runtime environment was creating tempory files in the temporary directory. NewViews now performs a better cleanup of these temporary files. Otherwise your disk would slowly evaporate. The path to the temporary directory is now displayed in the about box. It would be a good idea to delete everything you can from this directory as files may have accumulated from prior versions. NewViews will continue to use the temporary directory but the amount of disk space consumed will no longer grow due to the better cleanup.
Problem / Bug Fixes
-
Control-Click on a date field column title.
An error could be inadvertantly displayed when you Control-Click on the column title for a date field in order to "home in" on a particular date by typing. The problem was associated with the fact that NewViews only accepts dates in the range 1903 to 2037. This limit is a "temporary" restriction that is scheduled to be removed in a future release of NewViews. The error would occur when you start homing in on a date by typing "1" which places the date in the 1900's, (a normal thing to do considering many dates will be prior to 2000). But this "1" was being extended internally to the year 1000, which (temporarily) represents an invalid date outside the allowed 1903 - 2037 year range.
This problem has been fixed in this release.
NewViews 2.02 - Service Pack 1
Released - June 30, 2005
What's New
-
A clipboard copy button was added to the error window.
The clipboard copy button copies the contents of the error window to the Windows clipboard. The contents can then be pasted into any other text-based product such as an e-mail program. This makes it easier for to manipulate and/or send information to Q.W.Page when investigating bugs or other exceptions.
-
Exception log files were added.
All bugs and internal warnings are appended to text-based log files to assist in the investigation and correction of bugs and to log other exceptional events. A log file named nv20.log is kept in the NewViews installation directory. In addition, a log file named database.log is kept in each database directory. Exceptions can therefore be tracked on the workstation/server installation on which they occurred, and also for the specific database on which they occurred.
Problem / Bug Fixes
-
Eliminated bug 314120040922103843, i.e. uncontrolled changes to record amounts.
This bug was reported by the underlying intregrity checking system. The condition that caused the bug has been eliminated. Because it reported an integrity problem this bug would not allow you to continue using the database on which it occurred. With this release, anyone who was suspended from using a database because of this bug can proceed to use the database.
