Version History

NewViews 2.10

Released - February 18, 2008

This is a version change, not just a service pack. The service pack number is reset to zero. After installing this version, each workstation, server, or application database will be automatically processed the first time you open it. You will be asked for comfirmation before any processing is performed, and as a precaution, a backup is made automatically before each conversion.

What's New

  • Back/Forward navigation buttons.

A toolbar has been added to the NV2 desktop with Window back/forward navigation buttons.

  • Bookmarks.

Bookmarks (called "Favorites" in Internet Explorer) have been added to make NV2 easier to navigate.

  • January 2009 Payroll.

Includes Canadian January 01, 2009 tax calculation update. All Canadian payroll users will require this version to process payroll after January 1st, 2009.

Includes United States January 01, 2009 tax calculation update. All United States payroll users will require this version to process payroll after January 1st, 2009.

  • User control over creating new Excel workbooks and sheets when printing.

Table printing commands (i.e. Print>All and Print>Block) will check for a running Excel and if found will synchronize with it to allow for user control of workbooks and sheets.

Note that better control of Excel is required for several new features under development, including, for example, printing a package of financial statements and supporting schedules/documents in one operation.

  • nvcheck is limited to 100 errors.

Any check performed by nvcheck aborts if 100 errors are encountered. Otherwise thousands of errors may be encountered and they are almost always due to the same underlying cause anyway.

  • nvcheck added a low level block pointer check.

Another check was added to nvcheck. The new check is low-level and ensures that used and free block pointers are correct.

  • Added a sample Quebec employee to the Canadian demo books.

The demo_canada.nv2 books have been updated to include Quebec specific accounts and settings. An additional Payroll withholdings report has been added to deal with Quebec specific deductions.

  • Added a Statutory / Public holiday printing template.

A template is supplied to calculate public holiday pay to which an employee is entitled for Ontario Canada.

  • Updated the manual's Appendix D - Importing Files into NV2.

Transactions are imported into a general journal. By default NV2 uses the IMPORT_RECORDS journal. You can specify a different journal by using the field identifier "journal".

Problem / Bug Fixes

  • In some circumstances, Excel was left "hanging" in the Windows Task Manager Processes list, but was no longer running as an application in the Windows Task Manager Applications list. This release fixes the problem.

  • Go to>Any Account (F2) and goto_journal/goto_posting (F9) had several bugs and behavior issues, especially for restricted access users. This release should address most, if not all of the problems.

  • USA electronic funds transfer "File ID Modifier" error checking corrected.

USA electronic funds transfer file footer padding corrected.

  • Print>Consolidation Analysis sometimes failed.

Print>Consolidation Analysis failed when a report with sub-reports also had accounts, and these accounts participated in the consolidation. This release fixes the problem.

  • Block>Paste sometimes failed.

In some cases, block copy/paste buffers were not converted properly in a prior version change and issuing a Block>Paste command resulted in an error. This release fixes the problem.

  • Summarizing account histories sometimes failed.

When changing the summary postings dates on the odds and ends document, an error could occur, reporting failure to delete a summary posting due to a non-empty index containing XXX records. This was a bug because a check was made using the wrong index. This release fixes the problem.

  • Changing employee hourly pay rate mid pay period.

Changing a pay rate mid pay period caused the employee compensation for the entire period to be calculated at the closing rate. For Timecard Payroll users, this release performs a weighted average calculation and should fix the problem.

NewViews 2.11 - Service Pack 3

Released - August 14, 2008

Problem / Bug Fixes

  • Payroll deduction calculations were not properly respecting annual limits.
    This release fixes the problem.

  • W2 List amounts for Box 3 (S.S. Wages) were not displaying the proper "capped maximum" amount.
    This release fixes the problem.

  • W2 List amounts for Box 1 (Wages) were not including Box 7 (S.S. Tips).
    This release fixes the problem.

  • Indiana state payroll deductions (i.e. Employee List, Deduction Information, State 1 Exemptions Claimed). Q.W. Page technical support instructions were to enter, for example, 2,1 for 2 Line 1 allowances and 1 Line 2 allowances. In fact, you should instead enter 2.1. The seperator between digits is a period, not a comma.

  • A program change made in version 2.12.1 rendered the Tools > Pay Account window effectively "dead" to edit operations.
    This release fixes the problem.

  • A program change made in version 2.12.1 caused the Window > Define Columns window to occasionally refuse to update displayed information. The same mistake affected the Payrun, Pay List, Details window.
    This release fixes the problems.

NewViews 2.11 - Service Pack 1

Released - July 10, 2008

What's New

  • New printing field.

Added a new printing field for addresses. The new field concatenates the City, State and Postal/Zip code fields in the manner specified by Canada Post Addressing Guidelines and the US Postal Service Addressing Standards.

    The new fields are;

    COMPANYCITYSTATEZIPCODE, CITYSTATEZIPCODE and SHIPCITYSTATEZIPCODE.

Problem / Bug Fixes

  • In some circumstances the following error message appeared when attempting to process a payrun: "Cannot process the Payrun: There is another payrun for the same pay year & period but the pay period start date is not the same.", even though the dates are the same. (also for the pay period end date). This release fixes the problem.

  • Go to journal ([F9] from a (green table) posting) created an error if the journal was left with windows set to show the ledgers of accounts posted to.

Go to posting ([F9] from a (pink table) transaction) had some behavior issues relating to tags. Problems and ambiguities arise when the code to execute this operation must select an appropriate account folder, a view of the destination account table explorer, and a column of the (blue) accounts table to guarantee the destination posting is present in the detail pane (e.g. the tags, selection filters, and key ranges match), all while navigating in various user access scenarios. This is one reason the ability to view ledgers of accounts posted to from a journal was added to the journal window setup.

Go to journal and go to posting operations will likely require further refinement.

  • The Manage Bookmarks and Go to Bookmark windows were dueling over the sort order of bookmarks. This release fixes the problem.

  • In some circumstances an error occurred when attempting to select a reference field (by issuing the Edit>Reference>Pick command or pressing [F3] to select, for example, a new account's folder, etc.). The glitch was introduced by the bookmarks and breadcrumbs feature. This release fixes the problem.

  • In some circumstances the following error message appeared when attempting to change active folders: "::qw::control(window_default_setup) sandwich error." This release fixes the problem.

Service Packs

Version History

A version history with build changes is available here.

Note

It is Q.W.Page policy to release new service packs immediately when bugs are detected and corrected. The alternative is to accumulate a larger number of fixes until it is convenient to introduce a new release. Although the Q.W.Page policy results in a larger number of service packs, each containing fewer fixes, this makes the fixes available at the earliest possible moment. This policy is made possible largely because installing a new release is relatively fast and painless.
