NewViews 2.14
Released - March 30, 2009
This is a version change, not just a service pack. The service pack number is reset to zero. After installing this version, each workstation, server, or application database will be automatically processed the first time you open it. You will be asked for comfirmation before any processing is performed, and as a precaution, a backup is made automatically before each conversion.

-
Batch Printing
Printing many tables (e.g. reports) one at a time is tedious. You can now select blocks of items to print and execute one command.
-
Automatic Print Titles
Filling in the titles of a Print Settings prompt can be tedious (i.e. the Print>All and Print>Block commands).
If the name of the setting includes the character pattern "automatic titles" (case and position insensitive), the title row values are computed by NewViews.
-
Print Account Ledgers from Reports
The Print>Account Ledgers command now operates on a table of reports.
-
Discontiguous Blocks
Marking a single block of items to perform a command can be awkward, if the items are not all side by side in one group. This release allows you to mark many blocks at the same time, using the mouse and shift-key cursor movement.
-
Pay List import from Excel
Employee hours and other quantity information can be imported directly into a Payrun Pay List using information stored in an Excel file. To import, navigate to a Pay List window and issue the Tools>Import Excel command.
-
Enforce unique transaction Ref #s
NOTE: A last minute problem with this feature (and a hard deadline for the April 2009 payroll update), meant releasing this build with the feature temporarily disabled. A service pack will correct the problem and enable the feature.
A common request is for the ability to prevent a data-entry operator from adding the same vendor/supplier invoice twice (which is then accidentally paid twice).
This release includes the ability to enforce unique transaction Ref #s, per journal, and per account. The per account capability includes control for uniqueness on the debit view, credit view, or both (i.e. the ledger view). The per journal case is just a simple yes/no.
-
Account re-total respects user's transaction edit date range
Any attempt to re-total an account will first check to make sure no transactions exist which are dated outside the user's transaction edit date range. Prior to this release, any user with access to any (blue) account tables was able to "muck-up" the total-to arithmitic of a set of books. This new feature elevates changing total-to arithmitic to very senior access-rights users.
-
Release field added to server connection table
The connection table on a server displays various information about the workstation represented by the connection but it did not display the workstation's version. The workstation's version is now displayed in the Release field in the form 2.14.0.20090330. Several users suggested that when watching the server connection table, they wished to also monitor the versions of workstations.
-
Read-only serial numbers
NewViews can now be run with a read-only serial number. Read-only serial numbers have special licensing arrangements.
-
Workstation/server connection limitation.
The same workstation is now limited to 2 connections to the same server. Although you can connect any number of different workstations to the same server and access the same database, in this release you cannot connect the same workstation to the same server more than 2 times.
We continue to allow 2 such connections to provide for testing and user configuration. This limit is arbitrary but some limit is necessary to avert cheating under circumstances where separate workstations (virtual or otherwise) are configured to use the same serial number (in breach of the NewViews license agreement).
-
Updated the manual's Appendix D - Importing Files into NV2
Problem / Bug Fixes
-
Problem occurred when re-parenting a journal.
When you re-parent a journal, i.e. move it from one parent "folder" to another, the transactions of the moved journal did not appear as expected in the new parent. This problem was introduced in version 2.11.4 (released Dec 2008) due to the fix of an another problem. If you re-parented journals using any version from 2.11.4 to 2.13.1, the database will have integrity problems that can be detected using nvcheck and fixed using nvreorganize.
nvcheck Repair>Dangling Double Indirects didn't work.
This rarely used command has been broken since 2.12.0.20081222 was released. This release fixes the problem.

-
Error using @B in paycheck detail item description.

NewViews 2.14 - Service Pack 3
Released - April 20, 2009
Behavior Changes
-
The Tools>Pay Account preview window had some issues/confusion relating to the calculation of discounts.
A review of the code prompted a significant behavior change. The old version keyed off the Pay Up To Date to determine if an invoice is due, or a discount for early payment is still available. This version keys off the Check Date.
-
A new error message occurs when you attempt to use a page break separator in Excel output that is formatted for
Fit to # pages wide. It is tricky to get Excel to do this, and it adds a lot of compexity to the resulting sheet.
It was decided to prohibit it.
To use the page break separator, clear Fit to # pages wide and if necessary set the Scaling (10 - 400%) value to something that fits the page width.
-
The Tools>Pay Account preview window F2 Previous Account and F3 Next Account buttons were changed to respect
the selected block(s).
Dito for the Tools>Apply Payments and Tools>Apply Deposits commands.
-
Deleting several columns of a table window is tedious (each column deleted must be individually confirmed). A
new button has been added to the confirm prompt - Delete & Disable Prompt. Pressing it will delete the
active column, and disable the confirm prompt for all subsequent column delete operations.
The prompt is disabled until the table window is destroyed (e.g. when you navigate away, or shutdown).
Problem / Bug Fixes
-
A workstation could only access up to 2 databases through the same server.
This problem was inadvertantly introduced in the previous release. This release now allows any number of databases to be opened.
-
Bookmarks (and Forward/Back) are now multiple-database-explorer capable.
-
A user with empty Transaction Edit Range dates was prohibited from changing account total tos. This release fixes
the problem.
-
The address field for template printing has been updated. The City, State and Postal/Zip code fields are formatted
in the manner specified by Canada Post Addressing Guidelines and the US Postal Service Addressing Standards.
-
A Print>Detail Windows command, in some circumstances, caused a "Could not find field..." bug. This release fixes
the problem.
-
A Print>Detail Windows command issued on a posting explorer's table to print transaction detail windows erroneously
reported the error "...must be run from a table explorer control pane, with a table selected in the detail pane.".
This release fixes the problem.
