NewViews 2.22

Released - December 20, 2011

This is a version change, not just a service pack. The service pack number is reset to zero. After installing this version, each workstation, server, or application database will be automatically processed the first time you open it. You will be asked for confirmation before any processing is performed, and as a precaution, a backup is made automatically before each conversion.

What's New

• Presentation Quality Reports
  
  NewViews can now produce presentation quality reports. A new account table view can be installed to control the creation of HTML documents. A new Print>Presentation Quality menu command will output reports to an HTML file, and optionally launch your default browser to view and/or print the result.
  
  
• Payroll 2012 update
  • Includes Canadian January 1, 2012 tax calculation update.
    
    All Canadian payroll users will require this version to process payroll after January 1st, 2012.
    
    
  • Includes United States January 1, 2012 tax calculation update for, Alabama, California, Connecticut, D.C., Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, North Dakota, New Mexico, Oregon and Vermont.
    
    Political turmoil relating to taxes and a "just-in-time" delivery attitude on the part of legislators and bureaucrats makes providing timely payroll releases a challenge.
    
    As of December 20, 2011 Publication 15 (Circular E), Employer's Tax Guide is not available.
    This provisional 2012 USA payroll is based on Publication 926 and Notice 1036.
    FICA, Social Security rate for the employee set at 6.2%
    
    All United States payroll users will require this version to process payroll after January 1st, 2012.
    
• Payroll Report Update - Checks
  
  Payroll Report can now print paychecks with freeform check stubs.
  
  The Print>Payroll Report prompt provides for a new Detail Level value of paycheck. This, together with new templates (provided), allow you to print paychecks with complex, freeform check subs. It can be used to print paychecks, or print/email EFT payment detail advisory slips.
  
  
• Caseware Export
  
  Caseware Export can be used to export data to the Caseware program.
  
  
• TeamViewer is now installed with NewViews
  
  During the installation of NewViews, the TeamViewer program is now installed automatically, and added to the Start menu.
  
  The TeamViewer program enables Q.W.Page customer support personnel, supervised by you, to "drive" your computer remotely, while you watch and discuss problems so they can be diagnosed and resolved efficiently. Note that support personnel CANNOT access your computer remotely unless you initiate a TeamViewer session at your end and provide them with a TeamViewer "ID" identification no. The connection lasts only as long as you wish, and when terminated your computer cannot be accessed by Q.W. Page. It is safe and secure.
  
  
• You can now control backup reminders
  
  A backup reminder days field has been added to each user's options so that you can control the backup reminder period. For example, changing the backup days to 7 would bring up a reminder only if the database had not been backed up for a week. Changing the value to zero disables the backup reminder altogether. It can be turned back on by changing it to a non-zero value. In addition, for convenience, you can now change the backup reminder days in the reminder dialog window.
  
  
• Mircosoft .xlsx and .docx file types
  
  Microsoft .xlsx Excel files can now be selected everywhere as printing template files.
  
  Microsoft Word .docx files can now be selected everywhere as mailmerge template files.
  
  
• Improved Access/Audit Information Views
  
  Four new columns have been added to all Access/Audit tables:
  • Access Count - the number of users with access to the object.
  • Audit Count - the number of audit records for the object.
  • Date Created
  • Last Modified

Problem / Bug Fixes

• Printing to display with an invalid printer selected caused an error.
  
  
• The Workstation File menu displayed Close twice.
  
  
• Double clicking a workstation table row, when the table is sorted in reverse order, now opens the correct set of books.
  
  
• Underlines on the ledger and transaction view menus have been corrected.
  
  
• The option to skip zero balance accounts when printing account ledgers now works correctly.
  
  
• Selections that were not working as blocks in some places has been fixed.
  
  
• Print>Account Ledgers will now skip "no item" TOTAL accounts, if so directed.
  
  
• A timing bug in a block paste preview involving deleted data has been fixed.

• New check added to database utilities
  
  The Check External Pointers check was added to database utilities. This check ensures that pointers in application database objects point to other objects in the same database. A corresponding Repair>External Pointers menu command was also added to database utilities.
  
  
• New date dialog box
  
  The new date selection dialog box provides the same functionality, but it is a cleaned up version of the previous dialog.
  
  
• Presentation qualilty reports extended
  
  Originally conceived for printing a report's table of accounts, Print>Presentation Quality has been updated to function properly in the account folder hierarchy, and for an employee's accounts.
  
  

Behavior Changes

• Print>All and Print>Block settings for Title 1, Title 2 and Title 3 are now automatic for settings
  named *** Default Settings ***.
  
  
• Prompt windows that appear to collect options for printing, etc., now prohibit width resizing that would require a horizontal scrollbar.

Problem / Bug Fixes

• The presentation quality print options prompt required a Template Style Sheet. This was an error. It must be possible to leave this field blank to enable custom HTML reports.
  
  
• T4 box 56 (i.e. PPIP Insurable Earnings) now respects the maximum.
  
  
• Relevé 1 boxes G and I now work properly.

Behavior Changes

• Setting the print option Fit to # pages wide to empty will set the Scaling (10 - 400%) default value to 100.
  
  
• In the transaction create post-dated dialog box, the date pick box now pops up right under the date field like any other edit assist window.

Problem / Bug Fixes

• Some servers could not deliver email.
  
  In the previous release, (2.22.1.20111230) an internal component related to email generation had been upgraded. This led to an unexpected problem with some email servers that were no longer able to deliver NewViews emails. This release reverts to the original email component so that these servers once again deliver emails generated by NewViews. Q.W. PAGE is continuing to investigate the problem.
  
  
• Print All on a workstation/server with *** Default Settings *** caused automatic titles to load company name from application database.
  
  
• T4 boxes 24 and 26 (i.e. Insurable and Pensionable Earnings) now print on the T4 slip when the amount equals box 14.
  
  
• Releve 1 box A (Employment Income) is now the sum of boxes J, K, L, P V & W.
  
  
• W2 box 3 (Social security wages) now exludes the sum of boxes 7 and 8.

  The Block>Paste prompt window now permits horizontal resizing.

Problem / Bug Fixes

• An internal change accidentally caused timecard employee wage pick boxes to display empty.
  
  
• Print>All and Print>Block settings for Title 1 displayed "Workstation" instead of the application database name, when using the automatic titles feature.
